Redhill Football Clubs was formed in the autumn of 1894, following
a meeting held by prominent local businessmen in the Warwick Hotel. In fact, so great was the enthusiasm to bring senior football
to the town that the very first match albeit a "friendly" againist Dorking was played on the original ground at Wiggie and
lent to the club by their goalkeeper H. Trower, within a fortnight of their inauguration. The result was a 2-2 draw.
Two years later the club moved to whats now the Memorial Park and
which at that time was an open swamp area before adequate drainage was installed. This was accomplished under auspices of
a Sports Ground Association, an organisation that lasted until 1919.
At first all matches were played on a friendly basis and was not until
1898 that the club entered the South Suburban League followed by various others now long defunct. However, the club soon made
its mark by winning the East & West Surrey League Championship in season 1902/03 and two years later becoming runner-up
in the Surrey Senior Cup.
In 1922 the club was accepted into the then prestigious London League
and from there progressed to the Athenian League, where they remained until its demise in 1984. In their first season they
were runners-up and in the 1924/25 won the Athenian League Championship.
In 1925/26 they enjoyed what was perhaps their greatest season
ever, reaching two-cup finals and the semi final of the F.A Amateur Cup, losing 7-1 to Northern Nomads before a crowd of 17,000
at Highbury. A major contributory factor in this defeat was the loss of their goalkeeper early on with a severe jaw injury.
In 1928 they won the Surrey Senior Cup for the first time.
The club had to wait until 1957/58 for their next majorachievement
by reaching the First Round Proper of the F.A Cup, going out to Norwich at Carrow Road, 6-1. Other successes have included
the Surrey SenoirCup in 1965/67,the Athenian League Cup (twice) beating Dagenham and Walton & Hersham in successive seasons,
1970/71 & 1971/72, the first two years of its inauguration.
Other success include the Gilbert Rice Floodlight Cup and the Athenian
League title, in the last ever in 1983/84. After their eviction from the Memorial Sports Ground, their home for 88 years,
they then moved to the present site at Kiln Brow, and played in the London Spartan League for several years finishing runners-up
on two occasions.
Another change saw them move to the Sussex County Football League
where at present they are in Division 1 finishing in 12th position last season, having gained promotion in 1996/97
