Redhill Give Fans An Early Christmas Present
In This Four Goal Thriller,
Redhill gave their fans an early
Christmas present in this four goal thriller. This was Redhill’s best team performance so far this season, which now
sees the Reds climb up two more places, in the league, writes Dan Best.
For the first twenty minutes, Redhill gained
most of the procession and used the ball well. Once again Michael Morgan was very effective down the left wing as was Jon
Ducker down the right wing. Redhill saw most of the attempts at goal, brushing passed the post. With some excellent headering
from Reds defenders David Stares and Tim Smith, Redhill out outplayed their opponents.
It was no surprise when Redhill took the
lead on the 22nd minute, when Michael Morgan out played Worthing defender Richard Lewis, this allowed Morgan to
run pass him and knock the ball into the area, a mix up between Worthing keeper Dean Fuller and Defender Steve Webb, allowed
Ben Biggar to get the final touch on the ball, as it went over the line.
Within a minute of scoring Redhill nearly
made it two, when a good cross from Ollie West found the head of Luke Jones, but his header went straight at the keeper who
caught it comfortably. Captain Justin Jones continued to make things very difficult for the Worthing Players, with his excellent
ball control and foot movement. Redhill extended their lead on the 39th minute, when an excellent cross from Jamie
Sinclair, found Luke Jones, who headed the ball past keeper Dean Fuller. Redhill received a corner on the stroke of half time,
this was crossed into the penalty area, this found David Stares, whose powerful header for aiming for the top right hand corner
but defender Richard Lewis managed to header it clear of the line.
Redhill came out to the second half; wanting
to give their fans more to cheer about and they did just that. Redhill picked up where they left off and continued to march
forward. Worthing saw a little more of the ball but all their attempts where denied by both Stares
and Smith.
Redhill increased the score line again,
when Jon Ducker’s excellent run from the half way line, found unmarked Biggar, who slotted home, to pick up his second
of the game. Redhill nearly made it four, just five minutes later when Justin Jones fired an over head kick straight at the
goal, only to hit the inside of the post and cleared by the Worthing defence.
Redhill struck again on the 76th
minute, when yet another fine pass from Jamie Sinclair found Steve Jenns, who was unmarked, this allowed Jenns to fire the
ball past the keeper and left the Worthing players disheartened.
Redhill kept up the pressure, moving
the ball forward. But with five minutes to go, the Worthing attack started but with two excellent saves
from Reds keeper Chris Roberts, including a point blank shot from Sonny Banks, denied them of a consolation goal.
Man of the Match: Ben Biggar

with a 3-3 draw away to Crowbrough, goals coming from Captain Barry
Mountain, Jamie Dean and Luke Edmonds. The reserves at present remain second in
their league.

Arundel 2 Redhill 3 (Abandoned 65th minute)
Saturday 11th December 2004
Redhill didn’t have the best of starts
and found themselves one goal down in the first minute, when Gary Norgate put the ball past the Redhill keeper, to give the
home side an early lead. But Redhill were back on track, when an excellent through ball from Ben Biggar, found Jon Ducker,
who then fired the ball past the Arundel keeper to put the scores all square.
Michael Morgan, Luke Jones and Captain
Justin Jones all playing well and kept the ball moving forward. Redhill then took the lead on the 17th Minute when
some fancy footwork from Michael Morgan beat Chris Green, Morgan found Biggar unmarked and Biggar put the ball into the back
of the net.
But Arundel didn’t have to wait long
for their equaliser when Miles Scerri knocked the ball over Reds keeper, Chris Roberts, in the 21st minute. Barry
Mountain went close on the 30th Minute mark and Luke Jones on the 34th
minute. But Redhill found the lead in injury, when the Reds were awarded a free kick, Morgan took this, fired the ball into
the area, only for the keeper to punch the ball away, but only as far as Justin Jones who jumped up and header the ball past
him to give the Reds the lead for the second time.
During the fifteen minute break, the fog
started to come down slowly but both teams came out wanting to play football. Then every five minutes the referee went over
to both his assistants to check if they could see, after twenty minutes in to the second half, the referee again went over
to both assistants then called the game off. But both teams were really disappointed, especially Redhill, who worked very
hard to get the lead, and a replay will be needed.
TEAM: ROBERTS, WEST, SINCLAIR, MOUNTAIN,
CHANNON, STARES, MORGAN, J. JONES, L. JONES, BIGGAR. UNUSED: JENNS, WALLACE, DOICK.

Surrey Saturday Senior Cup Second Round
Tuesday 7th December 2004
Chipstead 2 Redhill 1
Redhill were knocked out of the second
round of the Surrey Saturday Senior Cup, against local rivals Chipstead, losing 2-1. Redhill had the better first half, creating
the chances. Michael Morgan kept out pacing the defence with his footwork, with strikers Luke Jones and Steve Jenns, just
missing the post.
Redhill had a penalty turned down on the
17th Minute when defender Wayne Allen, clearly handled inside the area, despite the protests the referee continued
play. But Redhill were the side to strike first, when captain Justin Jones, put an excellent cross in side the box; this found
the head of leading goal scorer Luke Jones, who cracked the ball past the keeper. Redhill then should’ve gone two goals
up, when Reds Striker and former Chipstead player, Steve Jenns, had a goal scoring opportunity missed. As he went to strike
the ball, he was pulled back by Laurence Buchanan, causing the shot to go sailing over the bar, again with the protests of
a penalty turned down for the second time, the referee said goal kick.
But Chipstead found themselves back on
level terms when Daniel Hornsby caught the Reds defence of guard and put the ball passed keeper Chris Roberts. But then Redhill
found themselves behind, in three minutes of time added on, when former Redhill player Herve King’s soft shot, some
how found its way in to the Redhill net, to put the home side in front for the first time.
Redhill came out to the second half determined
to get back in to the game, but Chipstead made this very difficult for the Reds to do. Chipstead stepped up a gear, and pressed
forward, but some excellent defending by David Stares and Tim Smith denied all the chances. Michael Morgan continued to run
forward and crossing the ball into the area, hoping some one can connect, but all attempts failed.
With just twenty minutes to go, Redhill
saw chances, hitting the bar and post, with some shot just flying wide of the post. Redhill were given a life line, when Chipstead
player Darrell Teasdale brought down, Luke Jones, the referee quickly pointed to the spot. Luke Jones stepped by to take the
spot kick, with a lot of pressure on him to convert this, the ball hit the top of the crossed bar, causing the ball to go
out for a goal kick.
With a few seconds left, Redhill never
gave up, the Reds had two chances missed in injury time, with Jon Ducker providing two excellent passes into the area but
the defence denied any chance of Redhill getting an equaliser and forcing the game to go into extra time. But the referee
blew for full time, leaving the Reds very emotional at missing out on a possible chance to play hosts to Crystal
Palace in the next round.

Redhill started the game very positive
and pressed forward. Steve Jenns and Luke Jones got start to work putting the home sides defence under pressure. Redhill saw
most of the ball for the first ten minutes and put together a nice passing system. Redhill struck first on the 11th
minute, when Steve Prodger, went in for a challenge from behind and knocked down Danny Guscott. Michael Morgan, was quick
with the free kick and fired this high in to the home sides area. Steve Jenns fired the ball into the back of the net, with
a smashing header.
From there on, Redhill, kept pressing the
ball forward despite the referee in charge not giving any decisions Redhill’s way. The home side then found themselves
back on level terms on the 27th minute when, Redhill keeper Dan Kelton came out of his area, and collided with
Steve Prodger. As the Redhill were sorting out their defence for the free kick, the referee’s assistant called the referee
over and claimed the incident happened inside the area, the referee then pointed to the spot and Scott McDonald converted
this.
Steve Jenns continued to battle forward,
trying to create more opportunities as was Michael Morgan, down the right wing. But just on the stroke of half time, McDonald
put the home side in front, placing the ball past Kelton.
Both teams came out to the second half,
and for the first fifteen minutes, both sides were evenly matched. Until the 67th minute, when Steve Prodger scored
to extend the home sides lead. Then Redhill determined to get back into the game, pushed everyone forward, but were denied.
Steve Jenns then hit the post on the 80th minute, then five minutes later hitting the cross bar. But then three
minutes left the referee lost complete control of the game, when a late challenge on Justin Jones by Mark Goodwin, saw a clash
of sides, resulting to Redhill David Stares being sent of for a second yellow card, and three Eastbourne
players picking yellows, including the goalkeeper. By full time Redhill felt cheated with the referee, but look forward to
Tuesday nights fixture.
