Redhill 3 Hassocks 2

Redhill Head over Heels with yet another Win

Redhill picked up yet another fine team performance win, with a 3-2 victory over Hassocks, writes Dan Best.

Redhill saw most of the ball in the opening twenty minutes and saw two very good chances go just wide of the post. Hassocks, who have yet to pick up an away win so far this season, struck first when Richard Thompson knocked the ball post Reds keeper Chris Roberts on the 26th minute. Redhill didn’t have to wait long to find the equaliser, Redhill picked up a corner in the 30th minute, this was taken by Michael Morgan, who crossed the ball into the area, this was just cleared as far as Justin Jones who was just outside the penalty area, with a great over head kick, touch the cross bar and went in.

Luke Jones and Steve Jenns both having good games, both went close in the last five minutes of the first half, but the scores remained the same.

For the first twenty minutes of the second half, saw both teams’ battle forward and looking to take the lead. Redhill found themselves behind for a second time when Ian Dawson put the away side back into the lead in the 68th minute. Again Redhill responded very well and just under two minutes were again back on level terms, when the ball was crossed in from the right, found Steve Jenns, who then chested the ball down and hit it on the half volley to send the ball firing past the keeper.

Despite the heavy fog starting to invade the pitch, Redhill then took the lead for the first time on the 75th minute, when a Justin Jones shot was saved by the keeper who dived to his right, he can’t keep hold of this and Luke Jones scored from the rebound.

Redhill then saw the last fifteen minutes out, and picking up all three valuable points to take them to ninth place in the league.

Manager Mark Endsleigh said after the game “the team played well and it shows in the score line, it means that we have picked up another three more valuable points and move into ninth place”.

Hailsham Town 2 REDHILL 4

Hailsham Town Couldn’t Stop The Jones’s

Hailsham Town failed to stop Luke Jones and Justin Jones, as Redhill picked up all three points thanks to an excellent second half team performance, writes Dan Best.

Hailsham saw most of the ball in the first ten minutes and then found themselves a goal up on the 13th minute when Peter Copper lobbed Reds keeper Chris Roberts. From there on Redhill started to see a little more of the ball but on the 30th minute mark found themselves two goals down when Nick Barden extended to home teams lead.

Just 30 seconds later Luke Jones beat the Hailsham keeper Mark Oldroyd, who came out to dive at the feet of Luke Jones, but Luke knocked the ball under the keeper to reduce the lead. Redhill then stepped up another gear and got the score back level on the 39th minute, when a neat pass from Jamie Sinclair found James Horner just right of the Hailsham area, Horner then fired a cross into the middle and Captain Justin Jones cracked the ball into the back of the net with cracking header.

Redhill came out to the second half determined to pick up all three points. Michael Morgan continued to fly down the wing, crossing the ball towards the Redhill strikers. Redhill were then awarded a penalty on the 62nd minute, but Luke Jones was unable to convert this as the keeper just got a hand to it, to deny Redhill the lead.

Luke Jones didn’t have to wait long for his second goal, when Michael Morgan outclassed Hailsham defender and captain Leon Legge, with his fancy footwork, Michael left the captain on the floor and fired the ball into the Hailsham area, the ball went over everyone except Luke Jones who headed the ball into the net giving Redhill the lead on the 75th minute.

The Hailsham defence then started to lose a bit of confidence, and started to make small mistakes. One being in the 85th minute, when Steve Hunt pulled down Jamie Sinclair in the area, the referee quickly pointed to the spot. Luke Jones was substituted on the 80th minute, so was unable to take the penalty kick, captain Justin Jones stepped up and fired the ball past the keeper, to extend Redhill’s lead. Redhill were unlucky not to add more, with chances from Ben Biggar and Steve Jenns, went just wide of the post and cross bar. But with an excellent team performance in the second half, Redhill picked up all three points.

TEAM: ROBERTS, HORNER, CHANNON, SMITH, STARES, GUSCOTT, MORGAN, J. JONES (C), L. JONES, JENNS, SINCLAIR.

SUBS USED: BIGGAR, BARLOW, DUCKER.

Redhill 0 Horsham YMCA 1

Tuesday 23rd November 2004

Redhil faced league leaders, Horsham YMCA, last Tuesday and were very unlucky not to gain any points from it.

Redhill had the better of the first half, and kept pushing Luke Jones and Glenn Barlow forward. Redhill created lots of goal scoring opportunities but were unable to finish. Michael Morgan again looked very affective down the wing as did Jamie Sinclair, who never stopped running in the ninety minutes.

Redhill were down to ten men when captain, Justin Jones was sent off in the 42nd minute for a late challenge on Wayne Potter. Despite this Redhill remained focus and tried hard to get a goal before half time, but former Redhill keeper, Ian Chatfield denied the Reds on more than one occasions.

The second half of the game saw Horsham have most of the procession, David Stares and Tim Smith, worked hard in the Redhill defence, with left back, James Horner, pushing the ball forward to Michael Morgan.

But on the 60th minute mark, Horsham took the lead with a well taken goal from Joel O’Hara, who chipped the ball over Reds keeper, Chris Roberts, who started to dive to the ground and can’t quite get a hand to the ball.

Redhill never gave up fighting but it was the league leaders who went away with all three points.

Redhill 4 Eastbourne Town 3

Saturday 20th November 2004

Luke Jones rescues all three points

with a late converted penalty

This match was dedicated to loyal Reds fan, Arthur Terry who celebrated his 95th birthday this weekend, and thanks to a last minute penalty by Luke Jones made this a very special win, as Redhill continued their undefeated streak in the league, writes Dan Best.

It wasn’t the best of weather conditions for an afternoon’s game of football, but both teams dealt with it the best they could. Redhill quickly went into the lead when Luke Jones knocked the ball past the Eastbourne Keeper, Russell Tanner on the 6th minute. Redhill didn’t have much time to sit back and defend their early lead, as it took Eastbourne United only 32 seconds to get back on level terms after Gary Brockwell lobbed Redhill keeper Chris Roberts.

For the next ten minutes both terms battled long and hard to make a break, but on the 18th minute Redhill found the break through that they were looking for when Adam Davidson obstructed Luke Jones just outside the Eastbourne penalty area. Michael Morgan stepped up and with an excellent curl, found the top left hand side corner, to give the Reds the lead again.

Redhill continued to battle forward despite the weather going from bad to worse. Steve Jenns continued to press forward and was unable to beat the Eastbourne keeper. Eastbourne nearly pulled it back level, just before half time, when a Daniel Andrews’ shot went wide of the post.

Both teams came out and looked to add more goals to the score line. Luke Jones and Steve Jenns kept fighting forward with Justin Jones and Michael Morgan trying to feed them the ball through.

Steve Jenns found the back of the net on the 52nd minute, only to discover that the referee’s assistant claimed it was offside and disallowed the goal. Despite this Steve Jenns kept forward and managed to knock the ball past the keeper again on the 57th minute with a nice turn and shoot technique after a short pass from the right from Luke Jones.

After this Eastbourne started to go on the attack and started to make things difficult for the Reds defence. Despite this Geoff Clark managed to get forward and had a shot from 18 yards out, this was just cleared by the Eastbourne keeper after a great dive to his left forcing the ball out for a corner.

With the last ten minutes approaching, Eastbourne would not give up and got the score back 3-2 after Steve Dallaway slotted the ball into the Redhill net. Eastbourne continued to press forward searching for an equaliser and found it on the 87th minute through substitute Tom Rowe.

Just in the dying seconds of the game, the referee’s assistant noticed some continuous shirt pulling on Luke Jones in the Eastbourne penalty area, as he went down the referee pointed to the penalty spot, Luke Jones stepped up and fired the ball passed the keeper to put Redhill into the lead and to pick up his second goal of the game. A few moments later the referee called for full time with Redhill picking up three very valuable points.

John O’Hara League Cup

Second Round

REDHILL 1 Sidley United 2

Redhill’s seven game undefeated streak came to an end on Saturday where they were knocked out of the John O’Hara League Cup by Sidley United, Writes Dan Best.

Redhill did not get off to the best of starts. Redhill who had the sun against them found themselves behind with the first four minutes of the game. Jimmy Watson crossed the ball from the right as the cross came in the Redhill players were caught off guard due to the sun and this allowed Kevin Rose to put the ball into the back of the net and give the home side the lead.

Redhill nearly got back on level terms when Steve Jenns’ thunderous strike came smashing back of the cross bar. But it was Sidley who had most of the procession and kept using this well. Michael Morgan and Jamie Sinclair were again playing some excellent football down the wings and kept pressing forward.

Redhill had a good chance in the 40th minute when an excellent cross from Michael Morgan from the left came into the box, cleared as far as Tim Smith who cracked the ball towards the top right hand corner and Sidley keeper Greg Thurstons managed the tip the ball over the bar.

Redhill didn’t have the best start to the second half, as they found themselves 2-0 behind just 47 seconds into the second half when Graham Morris slotted the ball into the Redhill net. Redhill started to pick up and started to string some balls together. Captain Justin Jones looked strong in the centre if midfield, trying to get closer to the goal.

Redhill picked up a penalty kick on the 60th minute and this was quickly converted into a goal by Justin Jones who was pulled down by defender Jason Finch.

For the next twenty minutes was very evenly matched with both teams unable to convert some excellent crossers. But with time running out very quickly Redhill never gave up and with the last kick of the game substitute Glen Barlow nearly got the score back on level terms but found his shot just go wide of the post.

Sinclair Rescues Point

As Redhill Now Go Unbeaten In Seven Games.

Redhill made it seven games in a row undefeated thanks to a Jamie Sinclair equaliser after a controversial goal from Josh Briggs, writes Dan Best.

Just before kick off David Stares who played his 100th game for Redhill when they played away to Rye and Iden on October 16th, was rewarded for this with a trophy donated by the Redhill F.C Club Shop, the trophy was presented to David Stares by Tristan Mitchell on behalf of the club shop and the Redhill F.C supporters.

As the game started it was East Preston who saw most of the ball for the first ten minutes. East Preston who have also been on a good run like Redhill nearly went into the lead when Nathan Axel’s shot went wide of the past.

Redhill then started to pick up and found themselves nearly in front when Captain Justin Jones took a well taken free kick which saw the ball just brush past the post.

From there on East Preston saw a little more of the ball than Redhill but The Reds kept up the pressure well.

East Preston midfielder Chris Hibberd saw his attempt go wide of the past on the 40th minute. But on the stroke of half time East Preston scored a controversial goal, the ball had gone out of play and landed in the technical area, all the Redhill players stood still expecting a throw in but a East Preston player kicked the ball into play, which found Josh Briggs who went one on one with Redhill keeper Kirk Ritchie and took the ball round him and placed the ball into the back of the net. With all protests going on the referee asked for play to continue.

Redhill came out into the second half determined to get back on level terms, but the East Preston defence made this very difficult for The Reds. Both teams fought hard for the next twenty minutes. Redhill then got back on level terms on the 75th minute, a free kick from just outside the East Preston penalty area taken by Justin Jones saw the ball whipped into the six yard box, the ball then was scrambled out by the away teams defence but only as far as Michael Morgan who crossed the ball back in from the left wing and found Jamie Sinclair who headed home the equaliser.

With time running out East Preston nearly scored on the 90th minute when they received a free kick just outside the Redhill area, Lee Farrell knocked the ball into the Redhill area and was cleared by David Stares only as far as Mike Hackett who crossed the ball back into the area, Redhill then managed to eventually clear the ball away, just in time as the referee blew for full time.

After the game manager Mark Endsleigh said “I was very pleased with the result here today. I didn’t think we started off too well but it means we’re unbeaten in seven games now. The officials after the game did come in and apologised for their oversight”.

Luke Jones and David Stares Send The Reds

Into The Next Round

Redhill went through to the next round of the Surrey Senior Cup with a fine team performance and now play away to Chipstead in Round Two, Writes Dan Best.

Redhill who were missing striker Glen Barlow through a virus and keeper Chris Roberts who was on holiday went straight to work.  For the first twenty minutes Redhill saw most of the ball and made it hard for Cobham to gain any procession. Redhill went into the lead in the 27th minute when top goal scorer Luke Jones beat the Cobham keeper Mick McGregor with a low shot from the left hand side of the six yard box.

Justin Jones and Geoff Clark looked strong in the centre of midfield providing useful balls up the field. Redhill nearly went 2-0 up just on the stroke of half time when a Luke Jones valley fly just over the cross bar.

Just one minute into the second half Redhill extended their lead when David Stares headed home from a rebounded corner.

Cobham then started to pick up as they kept edging forward. On the 53rd minute Redhill had a goal disallowed when Jamie Sinclair supposedly handled the ball.

Cobham eventually found a way past the Redhill defence when Marcus Ross on the 65th minute knocked the ball past keeper Kirk Ritchie. Both teams were looking to add to their score lines as they both kept pushing their way forward.

Justin Jones on the 88th minute saw a well struck shot hit the past and cleared by the Cobham defence. But it was Redhill who went into the next round when the referee blew for time just four minutes after.
